Travelling through Nigeria’s borders

All persons entering or leaving Nigeria must comply with customs laws on currency, baggages, and prohibited or restricted items.

Currency declaration

Travellers carrying currency or negotiable instruments above the limit set by the Central Bank of Nigeria must declare them on arrival or departure, using the official declaration process.

Baggage and personal effects

Present baggage for examination when required. Keep invoices or proof of value for new or high-value items where you may be asked to justify their status as personal use.

Prohibited and restricted items

Do not carry items on the NCS or joint agency prohibition or restriction list (e.g. certain drugs, arms, and wildlife products). When in doubt, ask customs officers or check official NCS public notices before you travel.
